… but on this occasion nothing borrowed and certainly nothing blue.  Following their introducing the Festival last year to the music of Schubert’s best pal, Franz Lachner, The Cambini Ensemble this year presents his Octet for wind instruments, preceded by the world premiere of Quintet No 3, written for them by local composer, Michael Lewis.

A quintet from Manchester that unravels new marriages of music from around the globe to celebrate the space where different cultures meet.

 

Vocal harmonies from South African coalesce with everything from Celtic reels and Brazilian samba to Balkan folk music and beyond.  Kabantu uses its music to bridge countries and cultures, creating an exuberant and joyful sound.  The ensemble has performed at the BBC Proms, on BBC3’s In Tune and at venues across the UK, including The Sage Gateshead, and Bridgewater Hall.
